The Power of 3 in Fasting
In this season of my life, I need clarity, guidance, and direction as I walk in a new chapter of independence. Right now, is do or die for me. I often overanalyze if this modeling career I’m so passionate about is for me. I have a lot of questions about the next steps I should take and where exactly is the right place for me, regarding my career and location.
So I remembered reading something years ago about fasting during times of crisis, special situations, or for the purpose of growing closer to God. I’ve just began to seriously get into reading the Bible this year. I would often see people quote scripture and I appreciated it over the years because to me, it shows they have some type of relationship with God. Still, I had never experienced God’s Word working in my own life.
I had a conversation with my personal trainer and it led to the topic of fasting, in a health and spiritual aspect. That conversation prompted me to do more research about it. So I Iooked in the index of my Bible for passages on fasting to see what I could find. I also have a small prayer book I received as a gift from my church when I was baptized a few months ago. Based on my findings and my heart, I made the decision that I would go on a 3-day WATER ONLY fast.
During those 3 days, I prayed more than I ever have. Prayer is simply a conversation with God about anything that’s on your mind. I used the time that I would normally be eating or cooking food, to read the Bible and meditate on it. Hunger pangs that came would reinforce and remind me of my dependence on God.
My fast began on a Friday and ended on Sunday, June 18th. Come Tuesday morning, I woke up to an email from a client I had worked with last year, requesting my services for their upcoming photo shoot. No less than 30 minutes later, I received a phone call from one of my agents to book a job with a major client. Two hours later, that SAME agent called back asking me to book with another client of theirs.
I have NEVER had that many inquires in one day, let alone in less than 3 hours time. That was 3 blessings for 3 days of fasting! I am grateful for God and how He is working in me. I wanted to share my experience with anyone else who is seeking clarity and needs a breakthrough for answers.
There is a real-life story, scripture, or parable in the Bible for every single need you have, waiting for you to understand it and let it transform you. If it doesn’t challenge you, then it doesn’t change you. I’ll leave you with the verse I meditated on daily and inserted into my prayers while fasting:
“…If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.” --- Matthew 17:20-21
